Fairyland

The Humpty Dumpty character on the Ulele roof is part of 11 remaining vignettes from a Tampa attraction called Fairyland that opened in 1957 next to Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo. Fairyland closed more than 20 years ago in the 1990s.

Columbia Restaurant Group owner Richard Gonzmart bought the discarded figures at a city auction last year because Richard had such fond memories of them from childhood visits. He recently had them restored by local artist Jason Hulfish

Ultimately, we’ll have more Fairyland characters on display at Ulele as well as background on Fairyland and a way to download the fairy tales themselves. Our hope is that parents will take this opportunity to read the fairy tales to their children.
